Charles E. Yauger, GM1, US Navy Served on the USS Louisville and was killed in action off the coast of Luzon, Philippines on 06 January 1945.

01 February 1945

Charles “Buddy” Yauger, 21 years old, has been reported missing in combat in the South Pacific, according to a Navy Department telegram to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brent Yauger of Mount Independence near Shady Grove Park. He entered the Navy about three years ago while a student at North Union Township High School. A brother, Morris, also in the Navy, was home on a leave when the telegram arrived, the latter returning to his base in New York Tuesday night.

15 March 1945

The Navy Department announced that Charles E. Yauger, G.M. 1st Class, of Lemont furnace, has been reported missing in combat.

04 April 1945

Charles Yauger, Petty Officer, First Class, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brent Yauger, Mount Independence, has been reported killed in action and buried at sea with full military honors in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He entered the Navy December 1940 and went into active duty six weeks after boot camp.
