Private First Class Ralph D. Cavanaugh


Early in 1943 Ralph entered the Army at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He was in basic training for 13 weeks. After basic he was sent to Ft. Benning, Georgia for paratroop training for 10 weeks. Ralph became a Glider Pilot which carried paratroopers into battle. He was sent to France in 1944, then participated in D-Day Operations, and then went on to Belgium and participated in the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded, and obtained frost bitten feet. He spent time in the hospital and received a purple heart. He then was sent back to the front line until the war ended in 1945. Ralph was one of the four sons of Ray and Mary (Eutsey) Cavanaugh. He is now deceased.
