Staff Sergeant Reid James Cavanaugh


Reid entered the U.S. Army on July 15, 1942. His basic training started when entering the 41st Division in Tennessee. After basic training he was sent to Ft. Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina with the 106th Division. In 1944 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. He was then transferred to California then shipped off to the Pacific Islands, where he developed a tropical skin disease and was hospitalized. In 1945 he was sent to Japan after the Atomic Bomb. In 1946 he was moved to California spending time again in the hospital with malaria. Reid was discharged in 1946. He is one of the four sons of Ray and Mary (Eutsey) Cavanaugh.
