PFC Clarence Henry Rocks-
Clarence was born on 15 July 1914 to the late Clarence A. and Anastasia (McGarrity) Rocks. He married the former Loretta M. Rice, a Connellsville beautician, in 1937. The couple had one daughter, Mrs. Judith (Rocks) White, of Connellsville, before Mrs. Rocks died unexpectedly in 1940. Mr. Rocks began working in highway construction, and during that period, war was declared.
Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps (later the U.S. Army Air Force) on 24 April 1942. After training, he was sent overseas with the 1333rd Army Air Force Base Unit - Air Transportation Command, where he served in the European and the China-India-Burma Theater of Operations. After the war, he was honorably discharged on 09 January 1946. Subsequently, he served a second term of service in 1947 - 1948 at the 9th Infantry Division of the Army Air Force at Fort Dix, New Jersey. After being honorably discharged from his second term of service, he returned to Connellsville.
Clarence passed away on 05 July 1968 at the age of 53, and is buried in Saint Joseph's Cemetery in Connellsville.
